Coastal Escape in Northern California: Blue Door Inn, Mendocino
My fiance and I were looking for a quick escape from San Francisco this Fall, but wanted to try something new. We're usually drinking wine in Sonoma, fighting traffic on the way to Tahoe, or hiking in Marin. There's few places near the Bay Area we haven't been.
I'd always heard of this unique town, Mendocino, but had never ventured through the Northern Coast of California far enough to reach it.
Alas, we partnered with Blue Door Inn in Mendocino to explore a new town near home.
We arrived after a three hour drive through beautiful redwood forests, surrounded by wineries and winding roads, to a bright blue door. A welcome note was left for us in the lobby, as we arrived after hours, to let us know how to enter our room.
This plush bed & breakfast was warm and inviting from the moment we stepped foot through the blue door. The cream and gray interior tones were minimal and sophisticated. It was immediately clear this was going to be a very comfy weekend!
The absolute best part of the Blue Door Inn is their breakfast in bed! Breakfast is delivered every morning between 7 and 9a.m.
The food was the best food we had in Mendocino during our weekend. Fresh baked scones, hard boiled eggs, coconut and honey yogurt, and pear with oats. There's nothing I love more than breakfast in bed with fresh coffee. The Blue Door Inn knows how to wake their guests up!
As is typical of Northern California, our first day was foggy as can be. We set out to explore the ridged coastline of Mendocino in the misty morning.
The coast is stunning with jagged cliffs, and rugged hiking terrain. Mendocino offers a short and easy hike along the coast right on the edge of the town, you can't miss it.
After a day of exploring California's coast, Blue Door Inn's guest rooms were a perfect place to take an afternoon nap. The rooms are sleek and stylish, and the beds are incredibly comfortable. It was tough to wake up in the morning with their soft pillows and warm down comforters.
After an afternoon nap, we went out to the lobby to enjoy complimentary wine and snacks. The hazelnut, berry and honey toast was scrumptious next to a bold red wine.
We enjoyed conversations with other guests during the happy hour. Most were passing through after a weekend of wine tasting in nearby Anderson Valley.
The Blue Door Inn was a pleasant surprise! My fiance and I thought we had seen everything Northern California had to offer, but we were wrong. Mendocino is quaint, and The Blue Door In is perfectly secluded from the crowds in Wine Country.
We'd like to thank Lark Hotels and The Blue Door Inn for hosting us.
