Vibrantly Zen Dining by the Ocean: The Runciple Spoon, Sri Lanka
If you all follow me on Instagram, you know the story around why my trip to Sri Lanka was so short lived… unfortunately. However, in the brief time I was there I had the opportunity to dine with the most scrumptious restaurant just a few minutes down the road from Galle’s old town.
The best part? It was situated in a boutique hotel right on the water! My favorite, as you’ve probably figured out!
The Runciple Spoon is an indoor and outdoor restaurant at The Owl and the Pussycat hotel, a funky boutique hotel in Galle.
Despite the hotel being hidden down a narrow road the pops of pink, yellow and blue were hard to miss. The wooden gate peaked open just enough to see the beautiful turquoise pool.
The bright colors did not stop there, The Runciple Spoon’s outdoor bar was decked in turquoise tile and the tables were lined with yellow and blue cushions to keep us comfortable as we soaked in the heat.
The food is just as colorful as the decor, as well it should be since the chef uses the freshest ingredients in Sri Lanka. The menu brought together a wonderful variety of Sri Lankan flavours with other global cuisine.
I went with the couscous, given my Mediterranean heritage, which was topped with feta, pumpkin seeds, Sri Lankan spices and lemon. Despite my state of health that day (again, the story is on Instagram!), the meal was absolutely perfect. Healthy and simple, but still flavorful and refreshing from the extreme humidity.
I topped my meal off with a fresh coconut and some roasted-to-perfection cashews, while enjoying a dip in the pool.
It was the most peaceful spot in the 48-hours that I spent in Sri Lanka. With the waves crashing up onto the pristine sand, the wind blowing palm tree leaves overhead and a cold fresh coconut to sip on was the best way to end my short lived trip to Sri Lanka.
I’m so grateful that Owl and the Pussycat showed me a vibrant side to this sweet country!
If you can't handle the heat, go inside! The checkered tiles and open kitchen are a playful space to dine in a cooler temp!
