Popcorn, Bubbles and Caviar in The City: The Riddler, San Francisco
My dream has come true. A bar... just for champagne.
Yaaaaas!! You heard right. The Riddler is San Francisco's newest wine bar. Serving up only the finest bubbles, caviar, and free popcorn every night. Even better, it was created by a power team of chicks!
Jen Pelka, owner of The Riddler & Magnum PR, a firm that reps a number of the 'best restaurants in SF', told us they named the bar after a step in the Champagne making process called "riddling." The process was invented by Widow Cliquot, a woman who revolutionized wine-making after inheriting Veuve Clicquot. She basically got annoyed that sparkling wines were cloudy with sediment, so she invented the process known as riddling, a stage in which bottles are placed on special racks that hold them at 45 degree angles and rotated over the course of many days. At the end of the process the sediment is at the neck of bottle to discard, leaving the Champagne crystal clear. Brilliant!!
Female-owned vendors like California Caviar, Water 2 Table, Thoroughbread Bakery and Guittard Chocolate are all featured on The Riddler's menu.
The Riddler is a chic and playful bar decked in greenery and hardwood. The gold detail, black leather booths and marble tabletops make it one of the most instagramable wine bar in San Francisco, and the perfect spot for a ladies night out. With the female-inspired artwork and sparkling interior, you're sure to have an Audrey Hepburn moment while dining with The Riddler.
For that you can thank Hannah Collins who is responsible for the interior design, while Danielle Moore branded the new bar and Eleanor Gerbe-Siff created the custom floral arrangements.
The playfulness shines through with the vintage popcorn machine, free for diners to enjoy. The menu contains over 100 Champagnes, and food like tater tot waffles, caviar, cheese, charcuterie and more.
This 500-square foot, 40-seat bar is a not to miss while in San Francisco. If you plan on going, they open at 4 and there's usually a line at 3:59.
We'd like to thank Jen Pelka, and The Riddler, for letting us enjoy their incredible caviar during our visit!!
